Johan Cruyff has commented that in defeat to Ajax, “Barca must wonder why things that worked well before are not doing so now.”
The Dutch legend was in the stands to see his two most notable former teams face up in the fifth matchday of the Champions League group stage.
Ajax inflicted a first defeat on the Catalans under Tata Martino this term, playing out for a 2-1 victory despite having a man sent off early in the second half.
“Barca must wonder why things that worked well before are not doing so now,” mused Cruyff after the game.
“The discussion over their playing style? This is a long debate and here they have not changed anything, but I will not go into that because these are conversations for the bar.
“Barca were not only missing Lionel Messi, but also many other players and their pace was very slow.
“But Barca does not have to worry about this. When a team plays well, dominates and creates chances, as Ajax have here, they will usually win.”
