Mata open to La Liga return?

A report in the Sunday People claims Juan Mata is open to a La Liga return to improve his World Cup chances.

The Chelsea midfielder has found himself frozen out of Jose Mourinho’s side as the Portuguese is understood to prefer Brazilian international Oscar because of his better defensive qualities.

It has left Mata fearing for his place in Vicente del Bosque’s squad for next year’s tournament in Brazil, and he is believed to be seeking talks with both Mourinho and technical director Michael Emenalo regarding his future.

Both Juventus and Atletico Madrid are keen to land the former Valencia man on loan in January, although he would prefer a return to Spanish football if he does eventually move on.

Mata was the Blues’ player of the year two years running prior to Mourinho’s arrival at Stamford Bridge before the start of this season yet he is concerned that any inactivity could ruin his chances of getting on the plane to South America.
