‘It would be special to have Messi’

Franz Beckenbauer says it would be ‘special’ to have Lionel Messi alongside Franck Ribery at Bayern Munich.

‘To have Messi and Ribery in the same side would be special. It would be a great combination and would also produce an increasing in merchandising,” insisted Beckenbauer in an interview with Sport Bild.

Considered one of the legends of German football, ‘Der Kaiser’ also admitted he would prefer Messi rather than Cristiano Ronaldo at the Allianz Arena.

“I don’t think he [Ronaldo] would fit into Pep Guardiola’s style. Neither does [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic,” maintained the Bavarian club’s honorary President, before commenting on the possible arrival of Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski and defending Mario Mandzukic’s role.

“Mario is as strong as him but Robert will add to the team. I hope it’s not long before he is wearing a Bayern shirt,” he explained.
