Luis Garcia: Atleti a shot in the arm

Luis Garcia Plaza has heaped praise on opponents Atletico Madrid before his side’s visit to the Vicente Calderon on Saturday night.

The Getafe boss believes the style of play imposed Diego Simeone has imposed since taking over at Atleti has been a shot in the arm for Spanish football in light of Barcelona and Real Madrid’s domination of La Liga.

“Atletico have turned Spanish football upside down. It seemed as if only tiki-taca was good enough. They can be an example to other teams. There, you have your headline,” he joked to reporters.

“For years only tiki-taca was good enough and now this team, with their aggression, intensity and ability to play together, without having a lot of possession in many games, has shown how to achieve things by playing differently.

“When they have the ball they play well and have a clear idea of what they want to do. However, because Spain play another way there was a belief that if you didn’t play that way, you couldn’t achieve anything.”
Even so, Garcia sees no reason why Getafe cannot take something from their clash this weekend

“Above all, I have a team full of hope. Three points are available and if we get them it would be massive for us, as we will be facing a team that has won every home game and taken on the two biggest teams in La Liga.

“It’s a great challenge and I hope we can get something. We must compete and play well but we are in good shape, full of excitement and belief.

“I think it will be an attractive game and we’ll try to get something positive, although we also know how difficult it will be,” he cautioned.
