Villa best in Spain says Alexis

Getafe central defender Alexis Ruano says David Villa is the best striker in Spain in his position.

Malaga-born Alexis, who comes up against the Spanish international when his team takes on Atletico Madrid at the Vicente Calderon on Saturday, is fully aware of Villa’s importance to Diego Simeone’s men.

“For me he is the best forward in La Liga. Although you don’t hear as much about him as Diego Costa, he does a lot of work and is good at getting away from defenders. I think that benefits them a lot,” he told assembled reporters.

Villa’s fellow striker Diego Costa is a doubt for this weekend’s clash, but Alexis claims it is something that does not concern him one way or the other.

“I always enjoying playing against the best and having him on the pitch would be good. If he doesn’t play it would be better for us, but it doesn’t matter who plays as Atletico have a great team and I wouldn’t even notice.”

Asked about Getafe’s ambitions for the game, the 28-year-old says Luis Garcia’s men always go out to win wherever they play.

“The last few times we’ve played at the Calderon we’ve had more possession of the ball, yet at the vital moments we have failed to score.

“This year we’ll be going out with the mentality of making it difficult for them, like when they come to Getafe, and we always go out to win.

“Atleti are on a good run at the moment and are doing very well at home, but we are capable of going there and competing. We are hopeful of getting a positive result.

“However, we’ll have to be careful to watch them on the counter-attack, which is what their game is based upon, and remain focused for the 90 minutes.

“They have some good finishers, but so have we. It’ll be tough but if we go there and try to get the three points we can do it,” he maintained.
