Arbeloa: I help where I can

Real Madrid defender Alvaro Arbeloa says he is prepared to help out where he can in Carlo Ancelotti’s starting line-up.

The Italian boss has both Marcelo and Fabio Coentrao injured and will have to call on Arbeloa to fill in at left-back for the game with Almeria this weekend.

Speaking at a promotional event for Adidas, Arbeloa insisted he will play wherever asked and is focused on helping Madrid achieve success this season, despite the distraction of the World Cup in Brazil next summer.

“I try to help out where I can but everything is concentrated on being able to pick up trophies with this team.

“At this moment we can’t afford to think of the World Cup because the club is the most important thing,” he said.

The Spanish international also reflected on this week’s friendly with the national team in South Africa, where he was almost forced to go in goal when Victor Valdes came off injured and Spain had used all six substitutes.

“As a goalkeeper I’ve got everything. But Pepe [Reina] got a bit scared and ran off,” joked Arbeloa.
