Messi: Cristiano is always there

Lionel Messi has outlined his intention is to see out his career with Barcelona and acknowledged that Cristiano Ronaldo ‘is always there’.

Collecting his third European Golden Shoe at a ceremony in Barcelona on Wednesday, the 26-year-old spoke to Marca on a selection of topics, beginning with his continued rivalry with Real Madrid’s No 7.

“He is always there scoring goals in every game and contributing for his team and national side,” Messi considered.

“He has done this for many years as well and if he is at his best level or just a little below it there is almost no difference.”

There has been speculation that Messi turned down three interested clubs over the summer, linked to a deal apparently funded by his boot sponsors Adidas.

“My intention is to stay forever with Barcelona. I appreciate, if it is true, what they are saying, that people are interested.

“I am proud that they are saying these things, but my life is in Barcelona.”

The Argentine also mused on Barca’s recent form.

“We are on the right track. We are preparing well for what is coming and to achieve important things come the end of the season.

“Argentina? Winning the World Cup would be a dream for me, for my teammates and for all in a country that for a long time has not won it.”
