Barca lose Alves for 10 days

Barcelona’s injury issues continue to worsen with the news that full-back Dani Alves is out of action for the next week to 10 days.

The Catalans have lost Lionel Messi and Victor Valdes to muscle-related injuries for the rest of the calendar year and most likely Xavi Hernandez for the weekend with a thigh strain.

Meanwhile, Gerard Pique and Cesc Fabregas have only just returned to training after light complaints and are yet to receive medical clearance, whilst Jordi Alba is still recovering from a lengthy absence and Cristian Tello is a doubt for the weekend with a sprained ankle.

Added to this today has come the news that Dani Alves has been ruled out for the next seven to 10 days with a small tear in the soleus muscle in his right calf.

Barca confirm in their statement that the Brazilian is going to miss Week 14’s test at home to Granada as well as the midweek Champions League trip to Amsterdam to face Ajax.

Training today saw Pique and Fabregas continue to work with the main group and Barca’s fit internationals return to the session.

Xavi and Alba continued to work separately.
