Alonso unhappy with contract leaks

Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso is reportedly unhappy that details of his contract talks with the club have been leaked to the media.

The former Liverpool man’s current deal with Los Blancos expires on June 30 next year and he is understood to have reached agreement for a two-year extension with an option of a third, on the proviso he could decide to leave at the end of each season if he feels unable to compete at the top level.

However, TVE has revealed that the 32-year-old is demanding €7.5m-a-year while ABC puts the figure at €5m, something that is believed to have upset the player, who naturally guards his privacy in such matters.

The Spanish giants tried to tie Alonso down to new contract last year, but the player decided against it on a sporting level as he had been suffering from a painful groin injury for some time.

Having opted to miss the Confederations Cup in Brazil last June to undergo surgery, he then broke the fifth metatarsal in his right foot in August which resulted in another two months on the sidelines.

Nonetheless, he has now recovered and is aware a number of top European clubs are watching his situation with interest, including Manchester United, Juventus and Chelsea.
