Alejandro Sabella has confirmed Lionel Messi won’t join up with Argentina this week, as he reflects on his ‘concern’ for the Barcelona man’s latest injury.
The 26-year-old had been named in Argentina’s squad for friendlies with Ecuador and Bosnia-Herzegovina in the United States this break.
However, he has been confirmed by the head Coach as out of contention after picking up a suspected thigh strain during Barcelona’s League win at Real Betis on Sunday night.
“We have spoken, it is certainly a tear. We will have to wait for his recovery. He has been ruled out,” Sabella has told reporters in reaction.
“I am concerned that it is in the same place. I’m not a specialist, but I am worried when players get injured in the one place. We have to be optimistic and calm.”
Messi is confirmed by Barca as having damaged the femoral biceps of his left leg. Previous struggles this season have come with the same muscle in his right leg.
