Fabregas: Messi must stop

Cesc Fabregas has advised Lionel Messi to stop so that he can fully recover from his latest thigh injury picked up for Barcelona.

The Argentine was pulled off midway through the first half of Barca’s 4-1 win at Real Betis on Sunday evening having injured the back of the thigh in his right leg.

For his midfield colleague, Messi must now not been rushed back into the team, else he will never recover fully.

“He has to stop to take the time it takes and he needs that explosiveness in order to stand out,” considered Fabregas after the Betis win.

“Something similar happened to me and I was very frustrated. You believe you are okay, but you are not. I was angry to miss some games, but I knew I was at Barcelona and I could continue to grow.

“I had that injury, I had a nightmare and even for a year-and-a-half was not good. He has to stop as it takes time, because if not, it will not heal well.”

The midfielder scored twice for Barca in their win at the Benito Villamarin.

“The team was a bit slow at the start, after the first goal we got better and in the second half we were very superior.

“I know what the Coach’s starting XI is and I’m not in it. I played a good game at Celta and then I went almost two games without playing and that bothered me.

“I’m on good form, I always try to vindicate myself and make a difference, and I want to say that I hope it does not happen again.”
