Ter Stegen doesn’t rule out Reina

Barcelona’s apparent impending capture of Marc-Andre ter Stegen does not mean that a move for Pepe Reina won’t also happen.

The Catalans are increasingly believed, despite Andoni Zubizarreta’s denial, to be tying up the finer points to a €10m deal for Borussia Monchengladbach’s 21-year-old German international goalkeeper, to go ahead next summer, on a four-year contract.

However, reports have also surfaced of the club’s continued interest in their former shot-stopper Pepe Reina, who is currently out on loan at Napoli for the season.

Mundo Deportivo assert that whilst Ter Stegen’s deal is close to being agreed, his capture does not rule out Barca also moving for Reina.

On from reports that technical secretary Albert Valentin was in Marseille to see the 31-year-old in action in the Champions League last week, the Blaugrana are reportedly considering bringing in the Liverpool-owned ‘keeper to compete alongside Ter Stegen.

Whilst Victor Valdes has made clear his determination to leave the Camp Nou at the end of the season, doubts also surround whether first reserve Jose Manuel Pinto will renew his contract beyond next summer.

It is understood that the decision over whether Barca opt for Ter Stegen, Reina or both will lie with Coach Tata Martino.
