Arrasate: Defeat deserved

Jagoba Arrasate admitted that a poor opening half hour from Real Sociedad had them deservedly defeated by Manchester United.

Wednesday evening saw La Real collect a third defeat in Group A of the Champions League, thanks to Inigo Martinez’s early own goal.

For the San Sebastian side’s Coach, failure to adjust at Old Trafford was the reason for the 1-0 defeat.

“We conceded a goal in the second minute and it is very difficult to turn the score around from there. We wanted to but we could not,” surmised Arrasate afterwards.

“United were better and their victory is a fair result. The boys are sad because they were very excited [about this competition], but now we have to recover and continue fighting.

“ We have the chance to be third in the group, but now we must focus on the Liga. When you concede a goal so early it is difficult – the team were not good in the first half-hour.

“We let them run and we suffered a lot. We are proud of the fans, we are upset that we could not offer them anything. They have behaved exemplary and the team appreciates it.”
