‘Madrid are favourites, but…’

Emerson has cast his eye over Real Madrid’s home clash with Juventus, citing the Italians’ potential to cause an upset.

Madrid host Juve in Champions League Group B’s third round of fixtures this Wednesday evening with the Spanish on maximum points so far and the Italians without a win yet, having drawn their opening two games.

For Emerson, who represented both clubs during his career, the points difference does not necessarily make for a similar disparity on the pitch tonight.

“Madrid are favourites, but we must not underestimate Juventus,” the 37-year-old considered on Canal + this week.

“The Bernabeu is an ideal place to get a result and turn around their situation. A win could be the spark needed for Juventus to reach the final of the Champions League.”

The Brazilian was asked if Carlos Tevez could prove the difference for the Bianconeri this evening.

“Tevez? He is a great striker, but for the final leap in quality he must win with Juventus. With Pirlo close it will be easier for him.

“Andrea is one of a kind, we were teammates in Milan and his calmness during difficult moments was impressive.”
