Pepe: Juve strong as a team

Pepe has identified that Juventus’ key strength heading into Wednesday’s clash with Real Madrid comes as a team, rather than through individuals.

The Bianconeri head out to the Spanish capital this midweek for matchday three of the Champions League group phase, with Madrid’s Portuguese defender anticipating the test ahead.

“We have to respect all of their players. They have key players like Buffon and Pirlo, but I think the most important thing about them is the team as a whole,” considered Pepe in conversation with his club’s official website today.

“I hope that we are strong. Juve are one of Europe’s and Italy’s big teams. They have two Champions League titles and great footballers. I hope it is a good match and that the fans enjoy it.

“The game could go either way because we are two great teams. I hope it's a good match, that the fans enjoy it and that as players we also can enjoy it out on the field.

“When it is like that, I think makes for a good show – I hope it turns out that way.

“This game is different because we are two great teams and two important teams in football history and it is always special to play in a match of this magnitude.

“The key to winning is to keep fighting, playing as a team and to do the Real Madrid shirt proud every minute that they’re on the field.”

The centre-back was asked which Juve player he would remove from their starting XI if he had the choice.

“They are all very good players but I don’t think that taking any of them out of the team is good because people like to see that all of the players are at a high level.

“Juve have a lot of them and that is good for the show. So, that is why I wouldn’t choose anyone.”
