Puyol, Messi back for Barca

Carles Puyol, Lionel Messi and Javier Mascherano have all returned to the Barcelona squad for this weekend’s trip to Osasuna.

Puyol has been absent from the side since March, recovering first from clean-up surgery on his right knee and then from a second intervention to remove a cyst from the joint.

After 220 days on the sidelines, the 35-year-old has been listed in Tata Martino’s 18-man squad to travel out to Osasuna tomorrow.

Alongside him is the returning Argentine duo of Messi and Mascherano, both also given medical clearance after respective thigh injuries recently suffered.

This weekend notably sees Gerard Pique, Dani Alves and Alexis Sanchez rested for technical decisions, on from involvement during the international break with their countries.

Meanwhile, Isaac Cuenca has also been given the medical all clear to resume playing for the Catalans, after his lengthy absence with a knee injury, but has not made this weekend’s selection.
