Messi ‘turned down three offers’

Lionel Messi reportedly turned down approaches from three clubs in the summer, including one willing to buy out his Barcelona contract.

The Argentine saw slight speculation over his future at the Camp Nou arise during the last transfer window, amid continued attention surrounding his tax issue with Spanish authorities.

It was enough, say Mundo Deportivo, to see three offers to leave Barca come in, including one from an ‘Adidas-sponsored’ club willing to pay the €250m termination clause in his current contract.

It is also believed that this particular offer also carried further incentives of increased value in his current boot sponsorship contract with Adidas of as much as 40 per cent.

However, it is reported that the player dismissed all three approaches, determining that he wanted to stay with Barcelona.

Reports are that Barca are looking to improve Messi’s contractual terms in the coming months.
