‘Consecutive wins would help’

Raul Baena has full respect for Week 9 opponents Almeria, but admits that the worth of a second consecutive win for Rayo Vallecano is great.

The Madrid outfit will be looking for just that coming Sunday afternoon when they head south to Andalucia to face the only team below them in the Primera Division table.

Despite Almeria’s struggles, which have them without a win so far this term, Baena is one on Rayo’s books that is wary of their potential.

“It is a game that will certainly be complicated, tough and we will have to work,” the midfielder has reflected this week.

“We will continue with the idea of being protagonists from the first minute and we will go for the game.

“Almeria are a good team and they do not deserve to be bottom of the League. They play well, they approach games very well and but for the details they would have more points. They have done much right and they are a team to be reckoned with.

“Today, every opponent has the potential to create danger in different ways, but we have to focus on ourselves, to do things as we intend and to correct our details.”

Rayo head into this match after an international break started with Week 8’s win over Real Sociedad.

“Logically after a win the break becomes more enjoyable, we have trained more comfortably and more cheerfully.

“The victory has been good to strengthen us in the work we are doing to help us move on.

“Winning two games in a row would be do well to strengthen us and to see that the negative dynamic has been broken outright.

“We are going to go game by game, we will not think about the objective of the other team, we will approach the game seriously and try to continue our progress with three points in Almeria.”
