Sergio Ramos heaps praise on Iniesta

Sergio Ramos has heaped praise on Andres Iniesta before Spain’s final World Cup qualifier against Georgia in Albacete on Tuesday.

Barcelona midfielder Iniesta is the star attraction of the match due to the fact he was born in Fuentealbilla, just outside the city, and Ramos pulled no punches in extolling his virtues.

“For us it is a tremendous privilege to have players like Andres who have marked an era with their team and the national side.

“It is a bonus that he represents us on a world level and as a person he has great quality. That’s what makes you have so much affection for people like that,” the Real Madrid man told gathered media.

Central defender Ramos played at right-back in the 2-1 win over Belarus on Friday night as boss Vicente del Bosque employed a back three and would not rule out it happening again against Georgia. He does not, however, see it being a problem.

“The other day I had to improvise a bit in that sense because time was running out and the result was not positive, so I had to gamble.

“If the national team needs it then I’m not going to have any problem in playing at right-back, although we are more comfortable when we usually have our four-man defence.”

Ramos was questioned over the possible arrival of Diego Costa into the Spain set-up.

“That’s up to the Coach and the coaching staff. As for the players, we would give him a good reception because he’d be an addition to our squad.

“He’d bring things to the team and would be well received within the group. On a personal level he is also a great player,” added Ramos.
