Camacho: Refs are against La Roja

Former Spain boss Jose Antonio Camacho feels the Spanish national team get no favours from international referees.

In an interview with El Partido de las 12, Camacho also accused officials of being “at fault” and cited last year’s Confederations Cup as a case in point.

“Right now everybody wants to beat Spain. There should be a campaign because it’s the referees who are at fault for Spain not winning more easily.

“It is very difficult to stop them by playing football and there should have been action taken after what happened in the Confederations Cup final.”

In addition, Camacho, who spent 15 years as a player with Real Madrid and had a short spell in charge at the club in 2004, appealed for fans to give Carlo Ancelotti’s side a chance to gel.

“The squad there is amazing and their rivals also have a lot to do. We need to wait and see.

“I’ve not seen Ancelotti in training but he looks to be a relaxed man who has a great group of players,” explained Camacho, who insists he understands why goalkeeper Diego Lopez has the No 1 jersey in La Liga games in preference to Iker Casillas.

“Real Madrid’s dilemma in goal is understandable because Diego Lopez is doing very well. When players are good there is no problem.

“Casillas is not playing regularly and the Coach is weighing up other things, but the atmosphere is positive,” he declared.
