Jonas: I wouldn’t play for Spain

Valencia striker Jonas insists he would not opt to play for Spain as Diego Costa has done, yet he respects his countryman’s decision.

“Everyone must think about themselves. If Diego Costa wants to play for Spain then it’s up to him to decide, although I wouldn’t do it,” explained Jonas in an interview with AS.

“I was born in Brazil, all my family are there and I want to play for Brazil. But I respect Diego Costa’s decision because he has been here a long time and Spain has given him everything.

“It is similar to what happened with Marcos Senna, but in my case it’s different. I grew up there and would like to play for the national team again.”

Jonas was also asked his views on Adil Rami’s imminent loan move to Milan following his criticism of Coach Miroslav Djukic and certain teammates.

“Rami’s statements were wrong but I always see him as a player who jokes a lot in the dressing room. It was a surprise.

“We spoke about it when we were in Russia [for the Europa League game with Kuban Krasnodar] and we laughed. It had already happened and hopefully it is now sorted out because Rami is a happy lad and we are not used to seeing him as heated as that.

“I read in the media he had a proposed move to Milan and hopefully it will work out because they are a great team,” added Jonas.
