Sprained knee for Gabi

Atletico Madrid have confirmed that Gabi Fernandez’s knee injury is not as serious as first feared, as he faces around two weeks out.

The midfielder appeared to have damaged his knee badly during the second half of Sunday afternoon’s 2-1 win at home to Celta Vigo and had to be replaced.

However, Atleti have carried out tests and confirmed that the 30-year-old has only sustained a grade II sprain in the joint.

Whilst no recovery period is detailed, it is an injury expected to require around two weeks for recovery.

The team captain will likely be a doubt for Atletico’s returning fixture after the international break, the Week 9 trip out to Cornella-El Prat.
