Atleti extend Arda Turan deal

Atletico Madrid have confirmed that they have signed playmaker Arda Turan to a new contract, committing him to the club until June 2017.

Los Colchoneros, who have recently signed Koke Resurreccion, Javier Manquillo, Oliver Torres and Juanfran Torres to new deals, have today confirmed that Arda has extended his contract also.

The Turkish creative midfielder had been linked in the summer with a possible return to Galatasaray and with interest from Chelsea and Liverpool, but has now committed for a further two years until the end of the 2016-17 season.

Speculation is that the deal will also increase the 26-year-old’s buyout clause from its previous €24m level.

“I feel very happy to have extended my contract with Atletico,” Arda noted through Atleti’s official statement confirming the news on Thursday.

“After two years with the Atletico shirt, I feel like part of the family, which is this club. If I am happy as the club are to continue then it is thanks to my colleagues and we are all achieving things together.

“Not only do I have to thank my teammates, but the directors and all those who work at the club, because all of us are in this big family.”

Sporting director Jose Luis Perez Caminero also commented on the deal.

“[There is importance in] maintaining the block that has provided us with so much success in recent seasons.

“The extension of Arda can be added as another important piece to our workforce and it is a source of great satisfaction.

“Arda gives us imagination, creativity…he is a different player.”
