‘I have Ancelotti’s confidence’

Angel di Maria has admitted he is happy to be staying with Real Madrid and that he has Carlo Ancelotti’s confidence.

The winger was increasingly linked with a move out of the Santiago Bernabeu this summer and was expected to be the one moved out to help fund the club’s move for Gareth Bale.

However, in seeing Mesut Ozil depart instead, the Argentine remains on the books at the Santiago Bernabeu.

“Yes I will be staying here,” Di Maria enthused in an interview today with Fox Sports Radio.

“I have the confidence of the Coach, I am very happy and my family also, which is the most important thing.”

Di Maria also cleared up confusion that stemmed from his inclusion in Argentina’s squad last March, for a fixture in Bolivia, when it was believed Jose Mourinho requested he not be called up, as he was recovering from an injury.

“The truth is that it was a pretty bad injury, I had been injured three times in the last year and again this year. They did not want me to go, but I said that I wanted to be with the group and I was given permission.

“Then, I felt good and when I asked [the Coach] Alejandro [Sabella], I said I wanted to play, but I do not know if they spoke with the club.”
