Lionel Messi has shown his support to Madrid’s bid to host the 2020 Summer Olympic Games and Paralympics.
The Spanish capital is in competition with Istanbul and Tokyo to host the sports event seven years from now, with a decision due from the International Olympic Committee due this Saturday.
Madrid’s bid has now received the notable backing of Barcelona’s Argentine star.
“I’m with Madrid 2020,” Messi told reporters this week.
“I think that the application has much potential for what it means to Madrid.
“It is good for sport to come to Madrid. Not only for what it is as a city, but for the athletes Spain has at the highest level.
“It is very important to host the Games at home. I was fortunate enough to participate [in the Beijing Olympics] and it is a very nice experience for any athlete.”
