United trigger Ander Herrera’s clause

Reports in England are that Manchester United have returned with a bid to activate Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera’s buyout clause.

The English side were confirmed by President Jose Urrutia late last week as having had a €25m+€5m offer for the 24-year-old turned down.

However, heading into the final day of the transfer window, reports in Spain suggested that the player was keen for the English to come back in with an improved offer.

On from this, Sky Sports News are running the line that United have done that and at the €36m buyout clause amount in his contract.

Should this prove the case, then United will be able to start negotiations with the midfielder, who El Mundo have already suggested would be willing to lower initial wage intentions from €6m to €4m-a-year.

United have previously been linked this summer with Thiago Alcantara, Cesc Fabregas, Luka Modric and Mesut Ozil.
