Victor Valdes reflected that Barcelona’s teamwork proved the difference against Atletico Madrid in the Supercopa de Espana.
La Blaugrana picked up the trophy on Wednesday evening after playing out a goalless second leg at the Camp Nou, to win on away goals thanks to last week’s 1-1 result at the Vicente Calderon.
Whilst called upon to make more than one notable stop last night, the Catalans’ goalkeeper reflected on what he saw as key to the success.
“The important thing is how we all worked as a team,” Valdes told reporters afterwards.
“On defence, when we went forward, playing on the wings…we all worked together.
“It’s a shame that the match ended in a goalless draw because we created a lot of chances. Atletico Madrid are a great team, we had to be very attentive.
“Starting off the season with a title is important. We’re eager to win more. We’re on the right path.”
