Dorlan Pabon has reflected on his ambitions in joining Valencia and how he feels the pressure he will be under is to be expected.
The Colombian international has this week completed a €7.5m transfer to the Mestalla outfit, where he is expected to act as Roberto Soldado’s primary replacement.
For the 25-year-old, it is a role he is prepared to take on.
“I have always had pressure because in my line of work there is always pressure on a footballer,” Pabon commented at his presentation this week.
“There is pressure from the institution, the fans, the journalists.
“The number of goals I can score will be based on a step by step basis, hopefully there will be many, as that is why I have been bought.”
Monterrey had initially delayed completion of the transfer by arguing that the buyout clause Valencia activated was an after tax number.
“I was very calm, I know that there was a clause that had to be respected, I trained as usual with the team and when the clause was paid, everything was sorted and here I am to show why I have signed.
“Valencia are a very big club, they play in the Champions League and I’m here to help them win things and always to work my way back into the national team.
“My dream is to play at the World Cup and to be there I have to do great things with this club.”
Pabon received a good luck video message from Colombian teammate Radamel Falcao.
“This is awesome, it is important for me to feel this support. I feel at home with many Colombians here and I am eager.
“I’m happy and glad to be at a very big club and I hope to contribute a lot.”
Meanwhile, the striker has already begun training with his new teammates and early indications suggest he is being included in first team plans for a start this weekend at home to Barcelona.
