Courtois regrets first leg goal

Atletico Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois reflected on the regret in conceding to Barcelona last week what has proven to be a decisive goal in the Supercopa.

The Belgian was beaten in last Wednesday’s Supercopa de Espana first leg at the Vicente Calderon by Neymar in the second half for a 1-1 result.

Combined with last night’s 0-0 draw at the Camp Nou, that away goal by the Brazilian proved the difference, handing La Blaugrana the trophy.

“We can be proud of our performance. It is a shame that having drawn twice we have lost the Super Cup to having conceded a goal at home,” admitted Courtois afterwards.

“The team is still growing. This serves for our next game in the League and especially as it is as difficult a game as away to Real Sociedad at San Sebastian.

“We are grateful for the fans’ support at Camp Nou. We promise to keep giving our all in every game.”
