Javi Marquez makes Elche switch

Elche have reached agreement with Real Mallorca for the season-long loan of midfielder Javi Marquez, without an option to buy.

The former Espanyol man [pictured, left] joined the Islanders 12 months ago, with Sergio Tejera moving in the opposite direction, and recently announced his intention to continue with the club following last season’s relegation.

However, the new economic reality at the Iberostar Stadium has forced Los Bermellones to drastically reduce their wage bill and Marquez, who is reported to earn €1m per season, has needed to be discarded to cut costs.

Marquez is an express wish of boss Fran Escriba, who recently asked for a central midfielder to add to his squad at newly-promoted Elche, and a statement on Mallorca’s official website thanked the 27-year-old for his professionalism and commitment last term.
