Barca turn to Agger

Barcelona have turned to Liverpool’s Daniel Agger after getting no joy in their attempt to lure David Luiz away from Chelsea.

The Catalans are believed to have had a bid of around €40m rejected by the Stamford Bridge club, who have repeatedly stated that the Brazilian international defender is not for sale at any price.

Consequently, according to reports in Agger’s home country Denmark, the message appears to have finally got through to the Spanish giants, who have now switched their sights to the Liverpool centre-back and put a €20m offer on the table.

It is a further problem for Reds’ boss Brendan Rodgers in the midst of the Luis Suarez situation, with Agger certain to be tempted by the prospect of linking up with the Spanish champions.

However, as in Chelsea’s case, the Premier League club have no intention of selling, with Rodgers even going as far as to say the Danish international will remain loyal to the Anfield outfit.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if Barcelona wanted him because he’s a world class defender,” maintained Rodgers.

“But Daniel is very committed to Liverpool and he is one of the players that has really impressed me.

“If we are talking about loyalty, he was one of the first players I talked to when I became manager. At the time there were a lot of big clubs looking to sign him.

“But he gave me his word that for as long as I wanted him at Liverpool he would be here, and he has never swayed from that.

“He has a commitment to the club that is so refreshing, his loyalty is impressive. He will always be wanted because he is world class.”
