United give up on Fabregas

Andoni Zubizarreta claims Manchester United have given up on trying to tempt Cesc Fabregas to Old Trafford from Barcelona.

The Red Devils made a final offer of €35m for the former Arsenal midfielder, with reports in the English Press stating the figure might even have risen to €40m, but La Blaugrana director of football Zubizarreta says Fabregas is staying at the Camp Nou.

“They have told us that they understand our position and have confirmed they are withdrawing in their attempts to sign Cesc,” the former Barca goalkeeper revealed on the Catalan club’s ‘Peace Tour’ of Israel and Palestine.

“We saw in the Joan Gamper match against Santos on Friday that he is on his game. He has a contract with us and anything else is just speculation.”

Nonetheless, United are yet to make a statement providing official confirmation they have pulled out of the race for the Spanish international, with Barca now waiting for the player himself to put an end to rumours he may quit the club.
