Bernat happy for Alba comparison

Juan Bernat has enthused at the comparisons with Jordi Alba and confirmed he will be alternating positions for Valencia this season.

The midfielder was used on occasion last season by Ernesto Valverde at full-back and notably continued in the position with success whilst on international duty with Spain at the FIFA U-20 World Cup this summer.

It is a positional shift that has earned him comparisons with Jordi Alba and a similar place in new Coach Miroslav Djukic’s plans, as the 20-year-old reflected today.

“It is a compliment to compare me to the development that Jordi Alba has had, as he is a starter for the national team and for Barcelona,” remarked Bernat to reporters.

“He is my friend and I hope that I can follow in his footsteps, because he is an example for me for all that he has accomplished.

“Djukic has told me that he sees me as a full-back because I have the qualities. On the first day of training he told me that he had seen me as a full-back at the Under-20 World Cup and that I will be alternating between that and midfield.

“Which position do I prefer? I have been an attacking player, but after the World Cup, I feel very comfortable as a full-back, whilst playing with the national side sees me attacking lot anyway, but I can play both positions.”
