‘An honour and a responsibility’

Joan Capdevila and Javi Lopez have reflected on the ‘honour and a responsibility’ they face as elected captains at Espanyol.

The duo were confirmed voted by their teammates to act as third and fourth vice-captains for Los Pericos heading into the new season, behind Sergio Garcia and Juan Forlin.

“It is an honour and a responsibility to have been elected by our peers,” the duo told reporters this week.

“I am very happy to be within the group of four captains,” Capdevila continued.

“The first is Sergio and I will try to help him in any way that I can. I am very excited, but if I wear the armband then it will mean that Sergio and Forlin are unable to and I would hate for that.

“But I will say that if someday I was to be captain, then I wish it was at Cornella-El Prat. It would be a great memory for me.”

“I called my parents, brothers and girlfriend to tell them the good news,” enthused Lopez.

“You always think that one day your time will come, and although I was captain with the reserves, now this is very special. It’s very nice.”
