West Ham consider Gijon ace

West Ham United are considering making a move for Sporting Gijon’s versatile midfielder/striker Oscar Trejo.

A report in La Nueva Espana claims the Hammers could even make a formal offer for the 25-year-old [pictured, left] before the weekend after being alerted to Ligue 1 outfit Toulouse’s interest in the Argentine.

The French club are understood to have made a €2.1m offer for Trejo, €400,000 more than a bid from Olympiacos last week, and the player’s agent Hernan Reguera plans to be in Gijon today to resolve his client’s future.

Even so, there are still some issues to be resolved before Trejo moves on, not least of which is that he is still allegedly owed money by Sporting, a situation that previously led him to denounce the club to the Spanish Footballers’ Association.

Trejo, who has been in Spain six years having joined Real Mallorca from Boca Juniors, was subsequently loaned out to both Elche and Rayo Vallecano before signing for the Asturians in 2011.

He is now understood to be attracted by the competitiveness of the Premier League, although Sporting may hold out for a fee of around €3m before he is allowed to leave El Molinon.
