Cerezo: Atleti signings? Maybe…

Enrique Cerezo has refused to be drawn on whether there will be more Atletico Madrid signings this summer.

The Atleti President, who was attending the traditional pre-season lunch with the Press before going on to greet the team and players at their training camp in Segovia, believes boss Diego Simeone already has a great squad at his disposal.

“I think that little by little we’ve assembled a very good squad and if anything else comes up then we’ll see about it. If not we won’t.

“We’ve got a great team which is going to be very united and we’ll have a great season,” said Cerezo, who explained the delay in bringing in new players this summer.

“Cholo [Simeone] was very nervous but that was just his way of expressing himself. If you are on holiday then how are you going to work? Things have to be done properly, step by step.”

Cerezo also commented on new signing David Villa after the former Barcelona striker’s presentation to the fans and media this week in front of 20,000 supporters inside the Vicente Calderon, some of whom ran onto the pitch.

“The presentation was spectacular. He is a player with many qualities and one of them is that he attracts many people. I think the majority of Atleti fans feel very good about this signing.”

“It was not an invasion. Some young boys got onto the field to get their shirts signed and then, when the player was leaving, more people came on.”

He also looked forward to the upcoming Supercopa de Espana clashes with Barcelona.

“Preparation for these games starts now. We’ll go on tour and after that things will begin for good, commencing with the Supercopa against Barca.”
