Rio Ferdinand questions Ronaldo

Rio Ferdinand has questioned Cristiano Ronaldo’s decision to leave Manchester United for Real Madrid.

Mundo Deportivo reports that in a statement obtained by the magazine France Football, the United defender does not criticise the Portuguese international but asks if his former teammate made the correct decision when he left for the Spanish capital in July 2009.

“Individually Cristiano has been ridiculous as a footballer, yet at the same time he hasn’t won more trophies than us since he left Manchester United,” said Ferdinand.

“I wouldn’t say he was wrong when he decided to go to Real Madrid. It was his dream and as such we should respect that.

“But if you look at how things have gone you’ll see he has not won more trophies.

“Therefore, if my aim was to win more trophies than why would I leave Manchester United?” he asked.

Ferdinand’s comments were in direct reference to a question put to him on whether Wayne Rooney would leave Old Trafford this summer.
