Monaco bid €25m for Atleti defender

Monaco are understood to have placed a €25m offer on the table for Atletico Madrid defender Filipe Luis.

The Brazilian international left-back was signed from Deportivo de La Coruna for a reported €12m in July 2010 and has become one of boss Diego Simeone’s most-used players.

Last season the 27-year-old played over 3,700 minutes in 42 official matches and he is someone the Argentine will be loathe to see follow striker Radamel Falcao out of the Vicente Calderon to the French outfit.

Nonetheless, the Madrid club may find it hard to turn down €25m given their financial predicament, with the money being used to free up some of the operations Atletico have had to stop recently, including a bid for Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo.

For Simeone it would be further blow after publicly lamenting the lack of additions to his squad so far this summer, with Los Colchoneros due to take part in next season’s Champions League.
