Martinez wants to learn from Pep

Javi Martinez has admitted that he can't wait to work with new Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola.

The Spanish tactician was officially unveiled as the new man in charge at Allianz Arena on Monday, and the former Athletic Bilbao midfielder has revealed that it is an exciting time to be a Bayern player.

“I think Pep is very similar to Bielsa,” he told Movistar. “I love challenges. This last season is almost unbeatable, but everything can be improved upon.

“I’m sure Pep will work hard and use every hour of the day to improve on what we did last season.

“I really want to learn from Pep. My [Spanish] teammates tell me that it is hard and we will train a lot, but we will work with a smile on our faces.

“After the season we had with Bayern, I like to joke with my teamamtes.

“When I misplace a pass I remind them: 'hey, I've won three titles this year!”

The 24-year-old then commented on his role in the Spanish national team and the Confederations Cup.

“I have no problems playing at the back for the nationl team. I do everything with extra motivation.

“I want to prove to the Coach that I am prepared.

“Both Italy and Brazil are very difficult teams – we're talking about the Euro finalists and Brazil have a new generation of exciting players.”
