A Spanish judge has ruled that Barcelona forward Lionel Messi and his father Jorge Messi do have a case to answer on the charge of tax fraud.
The duo were the subject of a complaint filed last week in a courthouse at Gava, Catalonia by tax authorities accusing them of defrauding the state out of more than €4m in tax.
Messi and his father both denied the allegation, which is for the years 2006 to 2009 and calls for their criminal and civil responsibility over the sale between of the Argentine footballer’s image rights to third parties based in tax haven destinations.
Today the judge overseeing the complaint has ruled that the pair do have a case to answer and has admitted the prosecutor’s complaint.
Subsequently, the player and his father have been summoned to court as a defendants on Tuesday, September 17.
