Lionel Messi has issued a brief statement in response to reports that he and his father face an allegation of tax fraud.
The Barcelona star and his father are reportedly the subject of a complaint filed in a Barcelona court this week that alleges that the duo have conspired to defraud the state out of more than €4m in tax.
“We have learnt from the Press of the action initiated by the Spanish prosecutor,” responded Messi in a statement released on Wednesday afternoon via his official Facebook page.
“It is something that is surprising because we have never committed any infringement.
“We have always taken care of all of our tax obligations on the advice of our tax advisors, who will be responsible to clarify this situation.”
