Leverkusen weigh up Montoya bid

Bayer Leverkusen are interested in taking Barcelona full-back Martin Montoya to the BayArena, reports Marca.

The Bundesliga outfit need to fill a gap on the right-hand side of their defence caused by Dani Carvajal’s return to Real Madrid and see the Barca man [pictured, right] as the ideal replacement.

However, the Catalans are in no mood to release the player, having previously insisted he would only be allowed to leave the Camp Nou for a loan deal with Inter this summer, rather than sell him.

It is understood that Barca are also prepared to offer him a new deal shortly, which they have already communicated to the 22-year-old, although so far there has been no formal offer on the table.

Montoya made just 15 La Liga appearances last term with boss Tito Vilanova forced to use him at left-back in order to give him more playing time, yet La Blaugrana see him as the natural replacement for Dani Alves when the Brazilian eventually decides to leave the club.
