Aspas explains Liverpool choice

Iago Aspas has revealed that he turned down offers from Italy and Portugal to talk with Liverpool this summer.

The Premier League side are reportedly on the verge of picking up the 25-year-old on a four-year deal for an initial spend of between €8.5m and €9m.

The Celta Vigo striker, who was previously linked with the likes of Chelsea, Reading and Valencia in January, caught the eye last season with 12 goals in his debut campaign in La Liga.

“When I heard that Liverpool were interest in me I did not hesitate for a minute,” Aspas told Reuters today.

“They are one of the biggest teams in the world. I had other offers from Italy, Portugal and other countries, but I decided that my future is in English football.

“I am very calm but at the same time very excited because I am making a very significant step forward in my sporting career.”
