Alonso prepared for Madrid stay

Xabi Alonso is believed ready to remain at Real Madrid for next season and to re-enter into negotiations on a contract renewal.

The midfielder was believed in talks with Madrid over extending his contract as far back as last autumn, only for reports to indicate his reluctance to commit to the club.

Borne out of a reported desire to see if he could put this season’s struggles with a groin injury behind him, the 31-year-old was thought willing to wait until November 2013, to assess if he still held a regular spot in Los Blancos’ starting XI.

Despite this stance over his contract still apparently there, AS report this week that the former Real Sociedad and Liverpool man, who misses Spain’s Confederations Cup campaign this summer to recover from his groin struggles, is keen to stay at the club this summer.

Alonso is believed keen to continue at the Santiago Bernabeu into next season and initiate talks on renewing his contract, which currently expires in June 2014.

It was suggested that in early negotiations, Madrid wanted to sign Alonso to a two-year extension through to June 2016.
