Xabi Alonso says Spain were not mentally prepared to defend their World Cup following their elimination in Brazil.
“This is a great source of sadness,” the Real Madrid man told the media after tonight’s loss to Chile confirmed La Roja’s early exit from the tournament.
“Mentally we were not prepared for this competition, physically we arrived in the right condition.
“Putting everything together we were not in the best shape. We were not at a high level and were are deservedly out.
“Normally the ends of cycles happen with a defeat. At best, we need to think about making changes.”
