Higuain: I want to leave Madrid

Gonzalo Higuain has confirmed that he wants to leave Real Madrid this summer: “I have not decided where I will go, the club already know that I want to go.”

The Argentine striker has been strongly linked with an exit this coming transfer window, with Juventus seen as having already begun negotiations.

After Madrid’s final game of the season, a 4-2 win on Saturday evening at home to Osasuna in which he opened the scoring, the 25-year-old has made clear his intentions.

“I feel that my time here is over, I want a change,” Higuain, who captained Madrid today, told reporters.

“These seven years have been intense, hard, bright. It was a considered decision. It’s hard, it wasn’t easy, but I think I want to go to another club, new challenges.

“I wish the club the best. No it is not because of the whistles, whilst the first time in seven years I heard them was against Borussia Dortmund.

“It was for other things that I am not going to talk about. I have stayed seven years here for a reason. I have drawn level with Juanito, as the 11th highest goalscorer.

“I hope Madrid do what is best for me. This is a decision that has been taken.”

Higuain was rumoured to have wanted to leave a year ago.

“It was the same last year, but the Coach convinced me, also my teammates. I have been here seven years, this is a consensus decision.

“I have not decided where I am going. Offers? Juventus are there, there are offers. I do not know. Honestly, I am going.

“I will go where they tell me they love me. Some people talk of the sort of class of player I am, I do not know.

“I’m going because I want a change. I want to settle the issue so as to not give you any further speculation.”
