Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has praised the qualities of teammate Raphael Varane in an interview with Foot Mercato.
“He is now a very good footballer who I have a great affection for. He has played with Madrid and imposed his quality when he has been given the opportunity,” Benzema said about his fellow Frenchman, who at the age of 19 joined the Spanish giants from Lens last summer.
“Now he is in the process of doing the same for the French national team. He is already a great defender, although he is still young, but as I’ve said before he has all the attributes to become one of the pillars of the French team.
“He managed to stop Lionel Messi, who wasn’t the only one he has done that to. He has also done well against other great forwards.
“Regarding Neymar or any other players, we’ll see when we get on the pitch. Anyway, I don’t think he is fixated so much with any of his opponents.
“He just goes out and plays his own game,” added Benzema.
