Guardiola wanted Neymar at Bayern

Uli Hoeness has admitted that Pep Guardiola asked him to sign Brazilian wonderkid Neymar for Bayern Munich.

The Bayern President told Sport Bild that the former Barcelona boss asked him to try and steal a march on his old club by snaring the Santos striker from under their noses.

However, Hoeness rejected the idea on the grounds that other young Brazilian players had encountered problems settling in Germany after coming directly from their home country.

“Guardiola wanted to sign a young Brazilian but we advised against it,” admitted Hoeness.

“We know from previous experience that young Brazilians usually have big problems adapting to the culture and the climate.

“If you pay €20m or €30m for them then it becomes difficult.”
