‘Barcelona best for Neymar’

Dani Alves has reflected on Neymar’s anticipation at joining Barcelona and on how La Blaugrana were ‘the best club for him’.

The 21-year-old has seen Santos and Barca agree to a reputed €25m transfer over the weekend to see the Brazilian join his compatriot at the Camp Nou over the summer.

“I spoke with him and he’s very happy that he’s coming to Barcelona, he knows that he’s coming to a big club and he knows how big this team can be,” Alves commented on Sunday evening about the transfer.

“He isn’t a pop star. He’s competitive, he knows the demands of this club and he has come to play his part. He’s very humble. He’s a star, but he’s very hard-working.

“He knows that he’s coming to Barcelona, a place where he will improve as a person and a professional.

“He knows that this club treats its players well, when he gets here he’ll see that this is the best club for him.

“Hopefully we can all help him [adjust] so then he can help us.”

Alves featured on Sunday night in Barca’s 2-0 win at local rivals Espanyol, to leave them in the hunt for matching Real Madrid’s season record of 100 points in La Liga.

“I think we had a really good start. It was key to win.

“It motivates us to win 100 points, now that’s our objective.

“It’s a great chance to write another page in the club’s history book.”
