Xavi: Let’s not be drastic

Xavi Hernandez has warned Barcelona ‘not to be drastic’ in considering making changes to the squad in the face of defeat to Bayern Munich.

The Germans ran out 7-0 aggregate winners over the Catalans across the two legs of their Champions League semi-final.

Gerard Pique was post-match one to suggest that ‘decisions will have to be made’ in reference to possible ins and out this summer, but his captain sees otherwise.

“We must not be drastic. We’ve competed in the Cup, the League and the Champions League but we fell short against Real Madrid and Bayern.,” considered Xavi.

“I am optimistic and I believe that this Barca side do have a future. We have a team with the desire to keep winning.”

The midfielder then turned his attention to the 3-0 defeat Barca were handed at the Camp Nou on Wednesday.

“We tried. The comeback was almost impossible and Robben’s goal then made it impossible. They have been better, they are on another level.

“Perhaps we have not arrived at our best physically and we had many injuries, but it is no excuse.

“Bayern have been superior, dominated in every way with their football.

“It is unfair though to say that German football is now above Spanish football after two rounds. Yes it is true that the result are as they are and that they are the two deserving finalists.”
